Summary/Background:
This report has been prepared for today’s emergency meeting of the Town of Taos Council.
We are seeing significant uptick in cases across the nation, state, and county, in line with where we were about a month before hitting our peak in New Mexico last November. Current hospitalizations hit 293 yesterday in New Mexico and are averaging 241 over the last seven days. There were 933 new cases reported in New Mexico yesterday, this excludes an additional 331 cases previously unreported in Lea County. We are now starting to see an uptick in deaths statewide also.
Lea County reported 281 new cases yesterday taking it to the same weekly case rate as at the height of the pandemic last November. 27 new cases were reported among Taos County residents in the last seven days, above the state’s old gating criteria, equivalent to 23 per week.
