Summary/Background:
The Covid-19 situation in New Mexico and Taos County continues to worsen as case counts remain stable nationally. Of greatest concern is not the case counts themselves but their consequences, represented by the level of hospitalizations and deaths. Current hospitalizations continued to increase to a daily average of 424, the highest level since early February. Deaths have increased marginally over the last month to 9 per day. The deepening issue among hospitals in New Mexico is illustrated on the attached slide from the NMDoH presentation last week. It shows a continuing rise in the NM Hospital Systems Capacity Self-Evaluation score, now in Crisis Standards of Care and at its highest level throughout the pandemic, including November 2020.
