Adoption by formal action of the Council of “An 8-Point Intermediate and Long-Term Plan for Sustainable Community-Wide Recycling”, including the reopening of the Taos Regional Recycling Center per the plan, requesting the participation of and adoption by Taos County of the 8-point plan as a partner in seeking a long-term solution, and authorizing the Mayor and staff to meet with the Governor, Congressional Delegation and State Legislators, as well as industry experts, businesses and advocates in order to implement the plan, including advocating an assisting in the sponsorship of required federal and state recycling and packaging legislation, advocating for the modification of environmental regulations governing the recycling industry that constrain the viability of local recycling programs, and to empower staff to identify and facilitate any available financial and/or technical assistance to local current and future recycling providers, as well as to foster the development or expansion of new local end markets for recyclable materials collected.
