This project will entail the reconstruction of Taxiway A and Connector Taxiways A1, A2, A3, A4, and A5. Taxiway A provides the only access from Runway 13/31 to the existing apron. The pavement strength for a portion of the reconstruction of Taxiway A will meet the same strength as Runway 13/31. Beyond the apron, there is a portion of Taxiway A, from east end of apron to end of runway 4 that will meet the FAA approved fleet mix. The connector taxiways will be designed to meet the same fleet mix as used for the eastern portion of Taxiway A. Existing Taxiway A2 will be completely removed per the approved ALP. The remaining connector taxiways will be renumbered and signs replaced accordingly. These pavement sections have been reviewed and accepted by the FAA. Taxiway A width will be 50 feet up to the eastern edge of the apron. All other new construction will have Taxiway widths of 35 feet.
The estimated construction period is 90 days.

The Town of Taos received $150,000 for the purchase of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). The SCBA is critical for firefighters to have maximum effectiveness while being protected from smoke, dangerous gases or deficient oxygen. Because of the SCBA, firefighters are able to gain deeper access into burning structures to perform rescue functions, locate and suppress the fire, and prevent further property damage at the same time. The Taos Fire Department SCBA inventory has expired or is expiring as follows:
10 expired in 2020;
42 expired during the Summer of 2021;
21 will expire in 2022 leaving only 11 available.
The grant does NOT require a match; however, the Town will be funding an additional $6,085.00 to the SCBA order.

New Mexico, New Hampshire, and Vermont all have relatively high case rates despite having relatively high vaccination rates. All three experience cold winters, and there is a clear pattern on the USA map showing a positive relationship between case rate and latitude as we enter the winter months. Cases have steadily increased across the country in the last two weeks as we enter the holiday season.
Taos County continues to experience an elevated case rate, but is doing better than all but six other counties in New Mexico. As of last Thursday there were four Covid inpatients at Holy Cross, three on ventilators, two of them vaccinated. While Holy Cross has the capacity to deal with that number of Covid patients, transfers remain difficult for many types of inpatients due to a lack of capacity elsewhere in the Southwest region of the country. Three Taos County residents were reported to have died as a result of Covid in the last week.
These are reminders as we enter the holiday season to do what we can to lower the risk of transmitting Covid through our community. Get vaccinated, get the booster, get tested, social distance, and mask up.
At this time of gratitude, I would like to say thank you to our awesome Holy Cross staff who continue to fight for every life as society tries to move on.
