Summary/Background:
The Town of Taos sent out a press release regarding the opportunity for small and emerging businesses to partner with the Town for a USDA grant. The press release was also distributed through the Chamber, MainStreet, and the Small Business Development Center.
For the purposes of the grant, a small and emerging business is a private business which employs less than 50 or fewer employees and has less than $1 million in gross revenue. All applications are evaluated based on evidence of showing job creation to occur with the local business, percent of nonfederal funding committed to the project, economic need in the area to be served, consistency with local economic development priorities, and experience of the grantee with similar projects.
Businesses may request funding to support training and technical assistance, construction, renovation of buildings, purchase of equipment, plants, and machinery.
The Town had 7 interested businesses but during the vetting process either didn't qualify or felt they weren't quite ready and needed a year to fully develop their plans to apply in the next rounds. The two businesses presenting will be (in alphabetical order): Rolling Stills and Taos Sanitary Supplies.
