Cases began to creep up nationally last week, while in New Mexico and Taos County we saw improvements.  With absolute numbers so low, the percentage changes can look quite drastic.  In Taos County last week we had 8 cases, down from 16 the week before, a 50% decrease week on week.  In addition to cases being around 1 per day in Taos County, the CDC categorizes our county as having a low community level of Covid.  This accounts for hospital admissions and bed utilization in our region of the state.

Summary:

• Nationally, cases were up 33% in the last week, down 17% in New Mexico, and down 50% in Taos County.
• The 7-day average daily case count in New Mexico decreased to 116 cases per day from 136 last week.  The 7-day average peaked on Friday, January 21 at a record 5,571 cases per day.
• Current hospitalizations in NM decreased 21%, and the 7-day average is 66.  Down from a peak of 682 on Jan 28.
• Average deaths per day in NM increased to 12 per day from 11 per day the prior week.  Down from 23 at the end of January.
• There were 8 new cases in Taos County last week, down from 16 the prior week, bringing the total to 5,326.
• There were no additional deaths reported among Taos County residents last week. The total has remained at 89 since March 1.
• Testing in Taos County decreased to a 7-day average of 66 tests per day, down from 76 the prior week.
• Taos County is considered by the CDC to have a Low Level of Covid-19.
• Taos County’s adult fully vaccinated rate is 89%.  59% of Taos County adults have received the booster, compared to 46% in NM.

Johns Hopkins University has been my reliable source of data for Covid mapping, unfortunately, their overnight update did not complete.  To avoid confusion between maps and text, I removed labels from the maps.  The maps are included to show the comparative case rates between states and between counties in New Mexico.

A new Caterpillar 938M Wheel Loader to replace a 1998 John Deere 624G within the Street Division of Public Works.

The Town of Taos received FAA award 3-35-0041-041-2021 in the amount of $854,084 for the design and maintenance of Runway 13/31 and Taxiway B and Connector Taxiways B1, B2, B3 and B4, previously approved by Council on 9/7/21.  The design was performed by Armstrong Consultants, TT-21-70, Task Order "H," and the sealant project is projected to begin later in April once weather conditions are conducive.
