Taos Juvenile Justice Committee Advisory Committee program goals:
“To improve the Juvenile Justice System and decrease the incidences of juvenile delinquency in the community while increasing the emphasis on prevention and early intervention in juvenile justice services.”
Our objective and methodology are intended to develop collaborative and responsive programming, using the best data, and evidence-based program models to respond to gaps in services and emerging needs.
We provide cost effective and temporary, non-secure alternatives to detention for youth who have been arrested or referred to the juvenile probation office.
We also serve youth whose offenses do not reach the level of JPO referral but have been identified by school counselors and others for being at risk of such referral due to their behaviors. This includes youth referred to TCJJB member programs for suspension, disruptive behavior in the classroom, recruitment in local gangs, social or emotional challenges that seriously reduce their academic performance or increase chances of absenteeism, etc.
