Upon review of the taxing authority of the Town of Taos Gross Receipts Tax, the total taxing authority granted to municipalities is 2.05%, the amount currently imposed is 1.5625% within the Town of Taos, which identifies the unused taxing authority of 0.4875%. This Municipal GRT does not require an election and can be imposed through the adoption of an Ordinance.
Tax History: The last time the Town of Taos imposed a Municipal Gross Receipts Tax increment was in December 1994 through Ordinance No. 1994-12.
Ordinance No. 23-07 imposes a Municipal Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) equal to 0.4875% with an effective date of July 1, 2023. Ordinance No. 23-07 has been published two weeks prior to consideration of final action on the ordinance by the governing body.
The projected gross receipts tax being generated by this increment totals, $1,900,000.
The revenues will be used for town general operating purposes.
