Summary/Background:  Animal welfare professionals, such as Town of Taos ACO Linda Sanchez, are not only caring for more animals these days, but they are also serving more people who are exceedingly stressed and reactionary. Navigating these tense interactions with the public is not only complex, but can also exacerbate employees’ personal stress and past traumas. This presentation will introduce the concept of trauma informed care in the workplace.  Practical approaches for de-escalation, self-compassion, and reducing re-traumatization for both clients and staff will also be explored.
