Summary/Background: Town of Taos Policy requires Council approval on all budget transfers that transfer funds between costs categories, (i.e. Personnel, Operating Expenses and Capital Outlay, interfund transfer, budget increases, project to projects and new projects. This adjustment increases revenues and expenditures to cover for a grant award from the New Mexico Fire Protection Grant Council program for Personal Protective Equipment and extrication equipment.

The 2019 Fire Marshall grant award is $100,000 and will be matched by the Town Fire Department in the amount of $51,087. The breakdown is as follows:
A second set of bunker gear (PPE) to meet NFPA 1851, recommended best practices include a thorough cleaning to remove carcinogens from the PPE after each fire. The additional PPE will give the department a backup while the contaminated equipment is being disinfected. Cost of PPE - $125,859. Breakdown: Grant $75,859, Match $50,000.
A first time purchase of one set of battery operated extrication tools to replace the obsolete hydraulic tools. The current tools are a low pressure model and do not have the strength to cut or spread the new high strength composite metals and alloys used in newer vehicles. Cost of extrication equipment: $25,228. Breakdown: Grant $24,141, Match $1,087.
